Cohiba, the Habanos flagship brand, was created in 1966 for Fidel Castro himself at the then top secret El Laguito factory. At first it was used only as gifts for visiting heads of state and other diplomats until in 1982 when Cohiba cigars were gradually made available on the open market. The leaves for Cohiba are the 'selection of the selection' from the five finest vegas in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis zones of the Vuelta Abajo. This, the medium to full flavoured Linea Clasica, is the original range of Cohiba cigars, introduced between 1966 and 1989. |
